The Savoy Hotel has been a landmark in the heart of the theatre district for generations, as well known for its Art Deco architecture as its celebrity clientele. It has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and ‘facelift’. Situated in the large lobby, Boodles has an outlet which, despite its size, offers an experience of the combination of product, design and discreet luxury; a gleaming “jewellery box”, which is informal and welcoming for the browsing customer, with standing counters as opposed to seated selling areas. The walls are covered with specialist manufacture glass panels, some with deep sandblasting and Palladium coating, others with a laminated gauze and mirrored backing. For the jewellery display circular glass cases were designed to increase reflectivity. The mirrored surfaces give the illusion of space and the bespoke “Lotus” chandelier glittering in the entrance sets the scene.
