Harrods, London

EJALdefined the dividing ‘wall’ between the private selling areas of the brands and the central space where items are sold over the counter. The concept was a central landscape of curved counters with translucent areas for privacy, using a back-lit onyx wall in combination with large glass vitrines and connected to the rest of the floor by black glass ‘tunnels’ serving to dramatise entry into the space. Lighting plays an extremely important role since the displays require very specific lighting conditions to look their best. The existing ceiling was retained, and a “cloud” in the form of lacquered panels with glass lighting rods superimposed over it. The high quality of all the materials enhance the requisite impression of luxury for this department.
