Private Residence

Belgravia, London

The house is Grade 2 Listed, mid 18C, but when purchased by the client it was disintegrating fast with few authentic Georgian features remaining. The Planning Officers agreed the front of the house would be restored to its original condition on the ground and first floor levels by conservation specialist Julian Harrap Architects, while the rest of the building could be developed into a series of airy paces connected by a translucent glass roof. The main reception area and open-plan kitchen are positioned halfway between the basement and ground floors, all three levels connected by a glass spiral staircase which forms a symbolic ‘hinge’ between old and new.
