Grand Entrance and Reception
Victoria & Albert Museum, London
In 2003, the grand entrance on Cromwell Road was remodelled by inserting a paved ramp on either side of enlarged steps, to allow easy access into the Museum for all visitors As part of the Masterplan for the V&A, EJAL were asked to resolve the problems arising from the old entrance doors and to rationalise the circulation patterns.
A new set of glass revolving doors was installed along with disabled access, lighting and control points for the Museum attendants. Underneath the Dome, a circular reception desk with backlit glass was installed, to serve as ticket / information during the day and usable as a bar for evening functions.
