The new boutique hotel is located at the edge of the World Heritage Site occupied by the Old Royal Naval College, set between Grade II Listed residential buildings & the well-known Trafalgar Tavern public house. Whilst maintaining a neutral appearance in this urban context, the building is a modern addition to this sensitive setting yet devoid of pastiche. This special relationship responds through the building’s size & use of materials with the Park Row context consisting of a feature translucent stone faade & graded perforated bronze louvres to the building’s edge. The dominance of the Queen Anne Quarter faade is represented by using ‘Ductal’, a modern fibre based cement. The building attains a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ driven by a series of passive environmental sources. The rear of the buildings & roofs facing Eastney Street are contextually green, consisting of ‘Living Wall Facades’.
