Deutche Bank Link
The client requested a high level link between the two high rise buildings they occupy in the City of London. Our aim was to create an elegant intervention at high level above the street evoking fluidity and transparency between the buildings and simultaneously conveying an armature for the environmental support systems.
The proposed structure is an assemblage of elements with distinct functions: a principal load-bearing system of thin shaped carbon fibre plates and suspension wires ; a series of carbon fibre cantilever ribs carrying a laminated glass deck and a number of glass components forming the balustrade which span side to side, stiffening the structure. A structural glass tube which discreetly envelopes all the above structural elements becomes a transparent wind shield carrying photovoltaic collectors, heating and cooling elements.
The visitor would cross this link as though suspended in the air, “hovering” above the street.
