Footbridge Competition

The brief was for a new footbridge in Maidstone to connect a historic part of the town with new development on the other bank of the River Medway. It transpired that the most suitable site for the foundation was on the newly developed land, therefore a construction system was proposed that would place 2 masts at the foundation end of the bridge, meeting at a point in the air from which cables would be attached to the bridge structure, allowing for relatively slender supporting members. The end of the bridge appears to ‘hover’ above the historic side of the river.
